Ballroom at School is a program for Elementary, Middle, and High Schools (grades K-12). Professional instructors partnered with DanceSport Alberta come to your school and teach students dance techniques in a fun and engaging way.

Each class progressively introduces new dance steps, building on and reinforcing what has been taught in previous classes using practice and repetition.

Ballroom at School is currently available to Calgary Board of Education schools. We're planning to bring it to more schools in more cities soon!

the BALLROOM AT SCHOOL program IS FLEXIBLE TO ENSURE that all SCHOOLS AND STUDENTS ARE ABLE TO take part. LESSONS CAN VARY FROM ONE TO THREE DAYS A WEEK AND THE LENGTH OF LESSONS ARE CUSTOMIZABLE. TYPICALLY, THE PROGRAM INCLUDES 40 HOURS OF INSTRUCTION SPREAD OVER FOUR WEEKS AND IS CUSTOMIZED TO TEACH MULTIPLE LEVELS ON THE SAME DAY.

DANCE PERFORMANCE

On the first day of your Ballroom at School program, an amateur couple with DanceSport Alberta (aged 16+) will come to give a performance in full costume before your class! This gives your students an exciting introduction to ballroom dancing and an encouraging model to aspire to as they are instructed in various ballroom dances.

DANCE COMPETITION

As seen in Mad Hot Ballroom -- the excitement of a dance competition between classes or between schools!

NEW! BALLROOM AT SCHOOL TEACHER TRAINING

A DanceSport professional instructs one or more teachers on how to teach dance to your students.


ENCOURAGING YOUNG TALENTS

ALL STUDENTS REGARDLESS OF INTEREST OR TALENT BENEFIT FROM THE BALLROOM AT SCHOOL PROGRAM, BUT SOME KIDS MAY WANT EVEN MORE. THE MOST PROMISING OR ENTHUSIASTIC STUDENTS MAY RECEIVE BURSARIES FOR FURTHER LESSONS AT A DANCE STUDIO. PAST DSAB MEMBERS HAVE GONE ON TO GREAT COMPETITIVE SUCCESS AT THE CANADIAN AND WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS.

Our instructors are independent professionals who partner with DanceSport Alberta to provide instruction to your students. They are passionate about dancing, and teach dancing to students of many ages on a professional level. By keeping the class light and briskly paced, they get kids learning the technique of dance while they are still having fun.

About DanceSport Alberta

Founded in 1988, DanceSport Alberta Association (DSAB), is a registered Alberta charity and not-for-profit association. We are the governing body for ballroom dancing in Alberta, and the regional body for the World DanceSport Federation, which governs the sport of ballroom dancing worldwide.

Our main functions are:

  • To promote ballroom dancing within our community,

  • To organize dance competitions, where amateur and professional dancers of all ages can compete in Cha Cha Cha, Waltz, and eight other Latin and ballroom dance styles, and

  • To develop and enforce the rules governing DanceSport competitions to ensure a fun and fair dance experience for all.
